Join us for worship on Sundays
9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
Our 9am service is comprised of more traditional components, including: a greeting, scripture readings, music, songs, and a message from our Pastor. Additionally, there is Holy Communion – for all – the first Sunday of each month.
From September through May, our Chancel Choir (6th grade through adult), directed by Michael Shoremount, leads the congregation in traditional hymns and performs anthems from baroque through contemporary time periods as well as music from around the world at the 9:00am service. Additionally, the Joyful Sound Ringers, our handbell choir, perform once each month from September through May. Our youth choir (grades 6-12) sings once each month from October through May.
Our summer special music features small ensembles, vocal soloists, and instrumentalists.
Our 10:30am service consists of a more casual atmosphere, including worship music performed by our talented praise and worship leaders. With powerful voices and skilled musicianship, they channel their love of God, inspiring the congregation to join in praising and worshiping the Lord for all He is doing in our lives.
In addition to praise and worship music, this service features a greeting, scripture reading, a message from the Pastor, and Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month.
Hockessin UMC also sponsors special music events either led by our own musicians or featuring guest artists in concert. Examples of several events are: a sing-along to celebrate Independence Day; a Christmas Baroque Music concert featuring soloist Amy Shoremount, soprano with the New York Metropolitan Opera; performances by the Wilmington Handbell Ensemble; and a Tuba Christmas.
Volunteers in our congregation play a crucial role in the success of our worship services, particularly in our music ministry. We believe that each of us has been blessed with unique gifts and talents to glorify Him through service. At Hockessin UMC, volunteers participate on a rotational schedule, typically serving once or twice per month at either the 9am or 10:30am service. Serving not only deepens your understanding of our church but also strengthens fellowship with others.
